High Tech Computer Center
The last decade has brought momentous change to the way colleges accommodate students
with disabilities. The beginning of this decade saw the passage of the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), a civil rights act that prohibits discrimination based on
disability status. The purpose of the accommodation process is to level the playing field
for students with disabilities. This can be partially accomplished by the use of computer
hardware and software.
The High Tech Center in Room B-106 is a wonderful example of adapted computing for
students with disabilities at Cuyamaca College. The center is equipped with five Windows95
based computers, a CCTV device, two printers and a scanner in addition to personalized,
disability sensitive, assistance in the lab.
