Universal Design

  • Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology, University of Washington, The Faculty Room: Students in academic classes come from a wide variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. For some, English is not their first language. In most classes, there are students with many types of learning styles, including those who are primarily visual or auditory learners. In addition, increasing numbers of students with disabilities are pursuing postsecondary education.

This program can be integrated into both Blackboard and WebCT.

Inquiry Resources

  • Using primary sources in the classroom Suggestions for using primary sources were compiled from the National Digital Library's Educators' Forum held in July, 1995 and from the Library staff. Educators at the Forum, like many throughout the country, know that history comes alive for students who are plugged into primary sources. These suggestions for student activities can help you enhance your social studies curriculum using authentic artifacts, documents, photographs, and manuscripts from the Library of Congress Historical Collections and other sources.

  • Learning Resource Center (Cuyamaca College Library)

  • Main site on Web Inquiry Projects A WIP is a lesson plan format promoting student inquiry. Central to a WIP is the use of un-interpreted data/information that can be found online -- that is, students attempt to answer inquiry-oriented questions by seeking and manipulating online resources. WIPs are designed to be viewed and used by teachers, however the Hook is often viewed by students as well. Keep in mind though, the more information given to students, the less inquiry-oriented the activity will be.

By pointing to excellent examples and collecting materials developed to communicate the idea, all of us experimenting with WebQuests will be able to learn from each other.

  • ERIC - The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education, produces the world’s premier database of journal and non-journal education literature. The ERIC online system provides the public with a centralized ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million citations going back to 1966. More than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004), previously available through fee-based services only, are now available for free. ERIC is moving forward with its modernization program, and has begun adding materials to the database.

  • SBC Blue Web'n is an online library of 2008 outstanding Internet sites categorized by subject, grade level, and format (tools, references, lessons, hotlists, resources, tutorials, activities, projects). You can also browse by broad subject area (Content Areas) or specific sub-categories (Subject Area). See "About this Site" for a scoring rubric and answers to other burning questions! Each month 5-10 new sites are added.

  • California Learning Resource Network CLRN makes it easy for you to find the standards-aligned software, video and Internet learning resources you need. CLRN experts have identified, reviewed and organized hundreds of Electronic Learning Resources (ELRs) in a searchable database that allows you to compare key features of selected resources. The Web Information Links (WILs) let you search or browse hundreds of free primary, secondary and reference resources. Electronic Learning Assessment Resources (ELARs) are data management programs that simplify delivery, aggregation and disaggregation of assessment data.

  • TERC Founded in 1965, TERC is a not-for-profit education research and development organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to improve mathematics, science and technology teaching and learning.

  • The WebQuest Page is designed to serve as a resource to those who are using the WebQuest model to teach with the web. By pointing to excellent examples and collecting materials developed to communicate the idea, all of us experimenting with WebQuests will be able to learn from each other. WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
