General Information

  • Respondus 3.5: is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard, eCollege, ANGEL and other eLearning systems. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment, or moved from one eLearning system to another. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or relatively new to it, Respondus will save you hours on each project. Download the free 30-day trial and see for yourself!

  • Respondus Registration and Purchase: Once you have downloaded and installed Respondus, Respondus LE, or StudyMate you then need to provide us your "Product ID" number and registration information in order to obtain the Activation Password.

  • Respondus Download Center materials includes:

    • Respondus 3.5:  lets you create and manage exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Blackboard, eCollege, ANGEL and other course management systems. Download Respondus 3.5 and request a free 30-day activation password today. (Older versions of Respondus can also be downloaded.)

    • Respondus LE: is a print-only version of Respondus that is available for free.

    • StudyMate 1.5: is an authoring tool that lets you create 10 Flash-based activities and games using three simple templates. The Flash activities are usable with any web server or can be published directly to Blackboard, or ANGEL courses.

    • Publisher Test Banks: are available for download in Respondus format. Instructors who adopt a participating textbook can request the Respondus-formatted test bank for free.

    • Supplemental Dictionaries: the Spell Checker tools in Respondus and StudyMate include three dictionaries: American English, Canadian English, and British English. A free set of supplemental dictionaries can be downloaded, which includes French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, and medical terminology.

    • Respondus Demo Movie Library:  is a collection of "How to" Flash movies that demonstrate various features in Respondus, StudyMate and Respondus LockDown Browser.

Paper Based Manuals

  • Respondus 3.5 for Blackboard: This paper based instructional manual is in PDF format.  The manual covers areas about how to get started, the start menu, how to edit a file, the setting options, how to preview and publish a test, how to retrieve and create reports, and other tools and features. Web Based Tutorials

  • Respondus Ticket-Based Support: If you have exhausted the above resources and still cannot resolve your problem, a ticket-based help system is available. Respondus staff will try to provide a response to your help ticket within 24 hours of submission, excluding weekends and U.S. holidays. However, please understand that limited resources have been dedicated to providing support for free products, such as Respondus LE.

  • Respondus Knowledgebase: is organized into different categories, please select a category that you are interested in. Additionally, you can also search the entire knowledgebase by entering keywords below.

  • User guides for Respondus: in MS Word format, which can also be viewed using WordPad. They are provided as self-extracting ZIP archives, which means that you should double-click on the file after you have downloaded it to your hard drive. Note that each Respondus 3 user guide is tailored to specific a "user personality" in Respondus. Select the guide that matches the user personality that you plan to use in Respondus 3. Video Based Tutorials

  • Respondus 3 Demo Library: The Demo Library is a collection of "How to..." movies that demonstrate various features in Respondus. Each movie is available in two formats. The first format labeled "View Now" requires Macromedia Flash Player 5 (or higher) to be installed on your computer. These movies stream directly from the Respondus website. The second format labeled "Download Movie" is a self-contained movie that doesn't require Macromedia Flash to be installed. However, this latter format requires that the entire movie be downloaded before it can be viewed (double-click on the file after it's downloaded). If you click on the provided link, the video will download to your computer.  You will be given a choice to run or save. Follow the on screen instructions. 

    Video demos include:

    • Introduction to Respondus, Blackboard users: This movie provides an introduction and overview of the full Respondus program. Created by Respondus.

    • Adding formatting, images and equations to questions: Learn how to use many of the formatting options available from the Respondus "Edit" menu. Created by Respondus.

    • Importing questions into Respondus: Do you want to import questions from a word processor or test bank? This movie will overview the process. Created by Respondus.

    • Downloading a Publisher Test Bank: College textbook publishers are starting to make test banks available in Respondus format. This movie demonstrates how instructors can download a publisher test bank if it is being distributed through the Respondus Test Bank Network. Created by Respondus.

    • The Respondus Exam Wizard: Do you have a test bank or a set of questions that are already in Respondus format? The Respondus Exam Wizard (located on the "Start" menu) offers an easy way to create exams using questions from other files. This is a feature you won't want to miss. Created by Respondus.

    • Moving an exam from course management system to another, Blackboard version: It's easy to move an exam from one course management system to another -- if you know the steps. Two versions of the movie are available, depending on the course management system you use. Created by Respondus.

    • Randomizing Exam Questions, blackboard Version: Learn the fast and easy way to randomize questions in your online exams. You'll also learn how to set up a question so it is randomly selected from a larger block of questions. Created by Respondus.
