Office of Instruction:  New Faculty Orientation

New Part-time Faculty Orientation

The New Faculty Orientation presents an overview of Cuyamaca College’s student characteristics, services, and resources for faculty and students, faculty processes, and procedures.  Workshops are held Wednesday evening of Professional Development Week each semester.  A “Survival Kit” is provided to all participants that includes a College Catalog, Class Schedule, campus map, Student Code of Conduct, important phone numbers and contact people and more.  The balance of the time is spent with more interactive experiences that vary each semester.  This year's focus is on the new Colleague System and how faculty class roasters and class management tools are used.  Included is the new electronic grade submission process.  Other activities may include:  (1) a panel of students who provide insight into what it is, at the first class meeting, that indicates a good instructor and a not-so-good instructor as well as what it is throughout the semester that keeps them engaged, (2) seasoned instructors who often drop by to share some of their best practices and strategies for survival, especially in classes meeting for more than two hours at a time, (3) time for answering new faculty's questions, and (4) a tour of the campus to locate essentials like the mail room, duplicating and main classroom locations.

Following is the tentative agenda from the most recent workshop.  The next workshop is scheduled on Wednesday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m. , B-167.
