This physical science course studies the patterns and processes that define Earth's major physical systems, the basic energy and material flows by which these systems operate, and the comparative place of our planet within the larger solar system. Topics will be investigated at global, regional and local scales and will provide a general synthesis of the disciplines of astronomy, geology, physical geography, meteorology and oceanography. Environmental disturbance and climate change will be addressed within the context of the topics described above.

Prerequisite: Previous and successful completion of, or concurrent, enrollment in Geography - 120 [lecture].
Co-requisite: None
Recommended Preparation: None
1 hour laboratory credit

Physical geography is the study of the physical processes operating at, or near, the earth's surface.  The laboratory [Geography - 121] component of this discipline will consist of exercises related to the lecture [Geography -120] topics of the course.  Exercises will pertain to global, regional and local aspects of physical geography, including earth - sun relationships, atmospheric studies, weather and climate, earth dynamics and biogeographic applications.  Field trips will be used to allow students to apply knowledge gained.
