VIII COURSE REQUIREMENTS
. STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITIES Please read the college policies in the current catalog regarding your responsibilities, the college's responsibilities, grading, cheating, student conduct, attendance, etc.
ATTENDANCE: · Students are expected to attend EVERY CLASS MEETING and BE READY TO START CLASS ON TIME. · It is your responsibility to contact me regarding any absences. · Students may be dropped from the class for absences, according to the college policies. · Poor attendance may result in a lower grade, due to missed in-class assignments.
MISSED CLASS MEETINGS: · Students are responsible for all lecture materials, handouts and assignments from missed classes. · You can obtain information on missed material from your lab partners. · Limited copies of handouts may be available until the next class meeting. · I will not repeat missed lectures.
DROPPING THE CLASS: · Please contact me prior to making the decision to drop. It is your responsibility to complete the necessary forms to withdraw from the class. If you do not do this it is possible that you will remain listed on the class roster, in which case I will be required to give a letter grade. (See schedule of Important Dates, pg. 5.)
CLASS PREPARATION: · All reading assignments should be completed BEFORE CLASS. · Students are expected to bring their books and disks/thumb drive to each class meeting.
CONDUCT: · It is expected that all work turned in is done by the student submitting the work for grading. Work performed by another student and copied, renamed or shared is not allowed. · Students are required to take their own tests. Opening other student files from the computer and submitting it as your own is not allowed. · I take cheating seriously. Students who submit work created or derived from the work of another student may receive no grade, a lowered grade, be suspended from class or school.
. QUIZZES/TESTS · Quizzes may be given on the lecture and reading material. · Lab skills and/or written tests may be given at the end of each lab section. · The timing for all quizzes/tests is not absolute and will depend on class progress.
EXAMS · The Midterm is scheduled for Apr. 13, but may adjust. The Final Exam date is Friday, May 25th · This exam may be comprehensive. · There WILL NOT be any makeup for the Midterm or Final exams, without prior arrangements. LAB ASSIGNMENTS · Assignments require hands on use of a microcomputer and will reflect class discussions and demonstrations. · Students are expected to do their own work. · You cannot have another student do any part of an assignment for you. · You cannot submit work that another student helped to create. · I use various methods to identify work from students who share work or submit the work from another student as their own. · Assignments are due one week after a chapter is completed or must be submitted by the announced due dates. · If your computer has problems you should use one of the college open labs until it is fixed. (Computer problems are not a valid excuse for late work) · Some of the lab assignments may require significant time to complete. (Don't wait until the due date to stat your lab assignments) · There are lab assignments which will be completed during class (there is no makeup for missing these). In-class lab assignments are due at the END OF CLASS. I reserve the right to give partial or no credit if these assignments are turned in late.
HOMEWORK · Assigned reading from textbooks · Reading of hand-outs and completion of Study Guides · Completion of lab assignments.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS · Students may be dropped from the class, for lack of progress, if they are behind by 3 or more assignments. · Late assignments earn credit as follows: · Partial credit may be given for assignments turned in after the in-class announced due date. · Assignments 1 week late earn 50% credit. · Assignments over 1 week late do not earn any points
GRADING · All grading is done on an absolute scale and is based on a percentage of the total points possible. Approximation of points to be awarded is shown in the table below.
