Text Box: Annual Implementation
It’s sometimes hard to imagine all that is accomplished over the course of a year.  Days turn into weeks,  weeks into months and before you know it a year has passed.  At Cuyamaca, a plan is in place to gauge just where the college is in regard to strategic planning.  That process is outlined in the Annual Implementation Plan.  At the beginning of each academic year, IPC looks at the activities in the strategic plan and determines what activities should be addressed during the year.  The plan is reviewed and updated three times during the year, November, February and May.  Each goal is assigned a primary person and group, funding source and timeline.  IPC has just completed the Annual Implementation Plan for the ‘03-04 Academic year and plans to report the progress of this year’s goals in the upcoming fall 2004 College Newsletter.

Accreditation Update
Now that the Accreditation Midterm
Text Box: report is nearing the final production and printing stages, Cuyamaca’s next focus is the upcoming Accreditation site visit, which is scheduled for October 2007.  You may think , “But that’s three years away!”  Well, considering how much work goes into the Accreditation process – there is no time like the present to begin establishing timelines for the visit.  The first order of business is to determine an Accreditation faculty co-chair.
The Accrediting Commission has recently revised the  ten standards into four standards and each standard has six themes.  In fall 2004, a steering committee and teams will be formed.  Spring 2005 will focus on data collection and fall 2005 will be devoted to data compilation and discussions with the various committees.  In  spring 2006, the teams will develop first drafts, which will be circulated campus-wide in fall 2006.  March 2007 is the target date to finalize the self-study
Text Box: report.  The Governing Board is slated to approve the self-study report in May 2007.  The self-study report will then be submitted to the Accreditation Commission in early August 2007 in preparation for the October 2007 site visit!  Our work is cut out for us, but Cuyamaca is well able to meet the task at hand.

Philosophy:  Leadership through vision is the foundation for the planning and policy-making process at Cuyamaca College.  The college engages all its members to ensure broad-based participation in campus decision-making.  This process assures that the college remains dynamic, futuristic and effective in meeting the educational needs of its community.

Overview of the Process:  The Innovation and Planning Council is the recognized shared governance structure for the college.  The Council will evolve, amend and guide the planning and policy-making process for the college.

The college’s planning process provides a focus to mobilize and allocate its human, fiscal, technical and physical resources.  The college’s initiatives, both long-term and short-term, are defined, implemented, continuously reviewed, assessed, and updated to respond to the ever-changing needs of the student population and the demands of the external and internal environments.  A three-year planning cycle is used to implement the Cuyamaca College Strategic Plan and the District Strategic Plan.  An annual Implementation Plan is developed by the Council using the Strategic Plan.

The college’s policy-making process provides a constituency review of all campus policies and committee structures.
