Dear friends,
It is my sincerest honor to give you the first sneak-peek at a book I wrote titled "The Spider-Man Chronicles: The Art and Making of Spider-Man 3." I wrote, compiled artwork, and took pictures for this 236 page book over the last two and a half years. The result is an extremely comprehensive insider's look at what it took to make "Spider-Man 3." From the very first story meeting to the very last frame of film that traveled through the camera, this book covers it all. Additionally, the book will introduce you to the numerous artists and technicians responsible for making this film and it will expose you to some of the most amazing conceptual artwork ever created.
Since the attached is a sampling of the book, and therefore taken out of context from the whole, I wanted to take a quick moment to explain what is enclosed.
- The cover of the book.
- Pages 13-15 - The first 3 pages of the CRAFTING THE STORY chapter, which discusses our script-writing process.
- Page 107 - A comparison between an early conceptual illustration of our subway set and on-set photography taken of the same scene. This comparison is in the DESIGNING THE LOOK chapter which explores the production design process.
- Pages 112 & 113 - A conceptual illustration of Black-Suited Spider-Man overlooking New York City. This illustration appears in the DESIGNING THE LOOK chapter on production design.
- Page 131 - A one-page exert of text that appears mid-way through the CREATING THE VISUAL EFFECTS chapter which details the steps Scott Stokdyk and Sony Pictures Imageworks took in bringing Spider-Man, Black-Suited Spider-Man, Sandman, the New Goblin and Venom to the big screen.
- Page 183-184 - My journal entry from shoot day #39 filmed in Los Angeles.
- Pages 212-213 - My journal entry from shoot day #86 filmed in New York.
- LOCATION SCOUT PHOTOGRAPH - Picture appears on page 197 along with a journal entry I wrote about our location scout and our technical scout.
Thanks for reading and most importantly, thanks for being a member of the Spider-Man Network. The support you have given the film, and me personally, over the years is much appreciated.
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Grant Curtis
