How to get started with Blackboard
There are a few ways to get started using Blackboard.
- Sign up for the Teaching with Blackboard online course by emailing rhonda.bauerlein@gcccd.edu. This course is open entry/open exit and you can work at your own pace. You will learn how to use Blackboard to enhance your face-to-face or hybrid classes, or to teach fully online. Professional Development credit can be earned for this course. More information can be found at
http://www.cuyamaca.edu/tlc/workshops/twb.asp.
- Enroll in EDU 214 - Developing an Online Course. This is a 3 unit class for Cuyamaca College credit. In this introduction to successful online course design and instruction, participants will experience components of an online course from both student and teacher perspectives. Participants will learn to use technologies to support online instruction and will develop sample content and online course components within course management systems such as Blackboard. Appropriate pedagogy will be
emphasized. It is recommended that students have basic computer skills (word processing, PowerPoint, email, web browsing). More information can be found at http://www.cuyamaca.edu/cindymorrin/ed214/default.asp.
- Take a class from @ONE. @ONE has two courses in particular that you may want to take. "Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning" and "Introduction to Teaching with Blackboard."
- You can read the manual and try to figure it out for yourself. This is the hard way to do it though!
Template
Instead of starting from scratch with Blackboard, you can import a template to get you started. See the
Blackboard template web page for more
