Welcome to ED 214: Developing an Online Course
(Section #0212)

This course is an introduction to successful design and teaching strategies for those teaching or interested in developing an online course. Participants will learn to use technologies to support online instruction and will develop key components of an online course. It is assumed that participants will have basic computer skills (word processing, PowerPoint, e-mail, Web browsing).

Learn Online, like your students will!

This class will be offered as an 8-week online class.  There will be opportunities for possible fieldtrips and workshops that will be posted.  You can also make individual mentoring sessions with me on class topics.

Please see How an Online Class Works for details about online learning.  Students need to have access to a reliable computer with a good Internet connection (high bandwidth) and word processing software.  Web authoring software (FrontPage or Dreamweaver) is also useful, but not required.

Cuyamaca and Grossmont teachers:  pay in person at the cashier's office for a huge discount (show your staff ID or pay stub). If you are an adjunct employee, you must be teaching during the semester this class if taken to receive your discount.  If you would like to take the course Credit/No Credit, pick up the form at the Admissions office.

Logging into the Course and Updating your Personal Information

  • Go to the Blackboard Log In page at http://bb.gcccd.edu.  Log in with your Cuyamaca STUDENT login name (firstname.lastname with with a PERIOD in between first and last name) and PIN (usually 6-digit birthday).  After you log in, you should see a list of classes in the opening screen (if you already have a Bb account, use that log in).

If you can't log in or you don't see this class listed on the opening screen, contact me as soon as possible!
  1. After you log in, click the link to ED 214 and then click the TOOLS button on the bottom left on the course menu. Click Personal Information and enter the e-mail address that you want us to use for this course (one that you check often). Make sure it is correct!  Adjust your name to what you prefer to be called and put in any other information you want me to have (phone number, etc.).  Getting the email correct is very important!

Welcome Summer 2008 Students!

Everything is listed in the syllabus and the online schedule for weeks 1-8.  Activities, assignments, discussions and assessments listed are due each week on Sunday night by 11:55 PM.  Send me an email if you aren't able to log on to Blackboard so that I can put you in the course.  Login to your Blackboard student account here.
