I. Participate in the Discussion Board to meet other online teachers
You probably have a bunch of questions about teaching online, and while
I could answer your questions, it's useful to get a variety of perspectives. So, this week you will have the opportunity to meet online teachers in a
Discussion Board. Go to the Discussion Board for this week to meet
other online teachers.
II. Online Teacher Interview Assignment
I also want
you to search for an online teacher of your own and preferably someone in
your discipline to interview for this first assignment. You will compile some questions, find
an online teacher, and interview that teacher. To begin, write out
the questions you have for online teaching. What do you want to ask
this online teacher? I also want you to search for an online teacher
of your own and preferably someone in your discipline.
What to Do
-
Write at least 10 questions you would like to ask an
online teacher.
-
Find a teacher to interview. You may choose
a teacher who is teaching fully online or blended (partially online).
Here are some resources:
-
Online
classes at Cuyamaca & Grossmont
-
California Virtual
Campus Catalog (might help you find an
online teacher in your discipline)
-
Conduct your interview in person (preferred),
by phone, or e-mail. You could also use videoconferencing or
instant messaging. Take notes!
-
Submit a
1-page summary to Blackboard Assignments
(Word or text document).
-
Share your impressions
of the interview in the online discussion. Did anything surprise you? Worry
you? Excite you?
-
Sample

completed?
• How do you encourage participation?
• How do you keep the students work organized?

the course?
Submitting work

III. Blackboard Resources to start building your Online Course
(Your Course Container)
Student View
Right now you
are enrolled in this Blackboard course site as a student, and in that
capacity you can access it, read its contents, interact with and print
it out, but you cannot change it. This side of the course site is called
the Student View. Let's take a look at what it includes.
Instructor View

Instructors can see Blackboard from two
views: the Student View and the Instructor (or edit) View. Access to the
Instructor View is through the Control Panel button. Only instructors
have this button because the Control Panel is where all course material
manipulation takes place. The Bb course containers you ordered (or
the ones I ordered for you) should contain this button because you are
the instructor. Students do not have this button. You can
always quickly tell if you're in a course as an instructor or as a
student by looking to the course menu on the left. If you do not see
the Control Panel button, you are logged in as a student for the
course. Right now, you cannot see a Control Panel button in this
Education 214 course, because you are a student in this course. It
is important to view the course you are teaching as a student later so
that you can view the "My Grades" button. If you are an instructor
in a course, you cannot view how the students "My Grades" look.
Use this
Rubric to help Guide you in thinking about building your course;
what features you should include and how you will evaluate your own
course. |
