I.  Create an assessment; test, quiz, or survey

Assessment is a critical part of what teachers do.  In an online class, it's especially important to clarify your assessment and provide feedback for students.  In this assignment, you will create an assessment; online uiz, test, or survey in your Blackboard container.

The purpose of an online assessment is to:

  • gauge student understanding of course concepts
  • evaluate student learning
  • provide practice exercises
  • help students monitor their progress in the course
  • perform opinion polls
  • administer course evaluations

What to Do

  1. Choose one activity; test, quiz or survey (see the resources below to help you do this)
  2. Use the online manual that gives you detailed directions on creating assessments in Blackboard.
  • Tests are created with the Test Manager located in the Assessment area of the Control Panel. This page provides a "wizard" type interface to guide you through the step-by-step process of creating an assessment.
  • There are two ways to create a Test using the Blackboard interface; 1.) Create one question at a time. Or, 2.) Select questions from a Pool you created previously. There are two ways to do this: 1.) either by selecting questions from the Pool to add to your test or 2.) by having Blackboard select a random block of questions each time a student attempts the test.
  • Creating a Test One Question at a Time
  • Creating a Test from a Pool
  • Creating a Test from a Pool (Random Block)
  • Surveys are a bit different than tests.  The Survey Manager allows you to create assessments that record answers anonymously. Use this when you want to perform opinion polls or course evaluations. Survey results are non-graded and anonymous, but an entry will be added to the Grade Center automatically, so you know who submitted a Survey.  After a survey is created, it must be deployed in a content area where a student can access it.
  • Create an anonymous survey (I have created an anonymous survey for you in this course in week 8)
  • Viewing survey results

Submitting work

  • If you chose to create a quiz, create a Word document that explains the topic for your quiz and when you would give it to your students and upload that under Assignments on Blackboard in the Wk 7 folder.  Explain how to find it in your Blackboard container so I can find it.

II.  Respond to the Discussion Board topic this week
