Academic Advising is important for all
students who plan to complete a Certificate of Achievement or Associate
degree. You should make an appointment with a counselor to discuss
your goals, then together you will draft a semester-by-semester academic
plan. You may request a one-semester plan, or a
four to six-semester plan. If you are a new student, you should attend
an
Assessment and Orientation session prior to
seeing a counselor for academic advising. Before making an appointment
with a counselor, consider the issues below:
- What is your
major?
- You can find majors offered at
Cuyamaca College in the
catalog.
- You can explore majors offered
through the UC and CSU at
ASSIST.ORG.
- There are many helpful websites
available to assist you in identifying a major.
- What is your goal? Is it a
Certificate, Associate Degree, university transfer, or personal
enrichment?
- Do you want an Associate Degree and/or
transfer to a four-year college or university?
- What General Education courses do you
need to take for an
Associates Degree?
- What General Education courses do you
need to take to transfer to a university?
- What courses do you need in your major?
(See
catalog)
- What courses do you need in your major
that prepare you to transfer to a university? (ASSIST)
- How many classes and/or units do you
wish to take each semester?
- What are your personal commitments
outside of Cuyamaca College?
Most of these questions can be answered by
reading the college
catalog
and
class schedule.
However, a counselor can assist you in planning and organizing your academic
goals. Call 619-660-4429 to schedule an appointment. |
