Graphic
design is a dynamic and evolutionary subject. This industry is perfect
for those highly creative people who want to be financially successful
while using their artistic talents. The graphic design program at Cuyamaca
College develops entry-level abilities needed to transition from academic
to professional work, or to proceed to a Bachelor's degree.
Career Opportunities
There are a wide
variety of employment opportunities in this vast industry. The skills
students develop at Cuyamaca will start them on the road to success
as graphic designers, digital or technical illustrators, cartoonists,
display or package designers, art or advertising directors, Web or
multimedia designers, desktop publishers, marketing directors, and
more. Some
students choose to become entrepreneurs by free-lancing while building
their own independent businesses, while others start their professional
journey with professional employment. Many begin employment prior to
completion of the program by participating in the internship program
or free-lancing on projects commercially.
Faculty
Qualifications
The
graphic design faculty at Cuyamaca College have years of professional
experience and continue to work in their chosen areas of expertise.
Each instructor is well qualified in his or her specific field and
has a wealth of practical knowledge and skill to share with their
students. Smaller class sizes allow instructors to provide individual
attention in a creative learning environment.

Cuyamaca
prides itself in its well-equipped computer lab. Our facility is known
for being one of the best in San Diego County. The equipment and software
programs are upgraded yearly to insure that students are learning the most
current technology. This insures the student will be totally up-to-date
when entering the professional environment.

The
curriculum is continually updated to reflect changing trends within the
graphic design industry. Courses are designed to give the student a broad
exposure to the field. Class projects are developed to parallel real-world
projects. This is fundamental in building a professional looking portfolio
of samples. Project requirements and specifications are identical to their
real-world counterparts in terms of expectation, aesthetics, and deadlines,
thus developing the student into a creative and reliable, professional
designer.

Our
students frequently transfer to programs at other colleges
and universities where they can earn a bachelors degree. Students should
consult the catalog of the transfer institution for specific requirements.
