The potential for a new green economy has received extensive media coverage. Despite this attention, and the investment of millions of dollars from the government, the future growth of green jobs remains unclear.

The goal of this symposium was to:

  • Identify opportunities for growth
  • Address barriers
  • Develop strategies that will create new jobs and opportunities

Opportunities and Challenges
Facing the Green Economy

Phil Jordan drew upon his experiences conducting numerous

  • occupational forecasts
  • workforce skills analyses and
  • economic forecasts

and presented findings on the opportunities and major barriers to growth of the green economy.

Overcoming Barriers and
Encouraging Growth

Although various policies and legislation have been created at federal, state and local levels to drive green job creation, the success of these initiatives is unclear.

In this discussion, panelists provided insight on the activities, policies and legislation that can help spur the green economy and encourage the growth of green businesses and jobs.

The Green Business Perspective

Recent workforce studies show that solar, smart grid, transportation and green construction industries will have a strong impact on clean economy employment in the near future.

In this session, panelists from successful green businesses discussed their experiences working in these industries, their strategies for success and what they are looking for in their employees.
