Autobiographical Presentation on a Selected Artist
of the 20th Century
Directions:
For this presentation,
you will be focusing on a particular artist from our century. The
format of your presentation will be that of a first-person autobiographical
account; that is, you should "take on" the persona of
the artist during the presentation, telling us about" yourself."
In addition to the basic biographical information (date sand places
of birth and death), you should concentrate your approximately 10-minute
presentation on the following:
-
Who you are, where
you lived and worked?
-
What artistic
movement you were connected/associated with?
-
Who you were influenced
by and what, specifically, that influence was?
-
Who, in turn,
you influenced, and in what way(s), specifically?
-
How, specifically,
your work moved beyond your influences?
-
What questions,
concerns, and concepts you were exploring through your work?
As you can see, there
is an emphasis here on specificity. Vague or general statements
will not earn a high grade for this assignment. Focus on concrete
examples: showing slides or otherwise illustrating your points/claims
with images is particularly useful here. Your main objective in
this presentation is to leave your audience with a clear sense of
WHO YOU WERE/ARE as an artist and what your contribution was/has
been.
