ASSIGNMENT
Introduction
The field of child development is
constantly changing as new research findings are published or prior
writings revisited. The field is very broad – encompassing topics
ranging from discipline and other parenting issues to brain
development, genetic counseling, eating disorders and………it goes on
and on. This assignment encourages you to explore a topic of
particular interest to you.
Assignment
·
Find two recent journal or
college-level media articles on the same topic that are related to
this course.
·
After reading both, summarize
the findings of the articles, comparing and contrasting the primary
facts/information.
·
Then share your personal
reaction and insights about the main points of the articles.
Report your findings in the
following format:
Part I.
For each article
list:
·
Title of the article
·
Author(s): If available, what
are the credentials/qualifications of the authors?
·
Journal/magazines/web site in
which articles are published (full title)
·
What organization publishes the
journals or magazines?
·
What are the dates of
publication?
·
URL (address for site on the
internet) for each article
Part II.
·
Summary:
Read both articles carefully, making notes about the key points or
information. Summarize the two articles together, making
comparisons and contrasts about the findings on the topic of your
report from both sources. (Note: the
summary should be 1/2 to one page in length. Any more is not a
summary).

Reaction:
Why did you choose this particular topic? How does it relate to the
study of Child Growth and Development? In what ways do you agree or
disagree with what you read? How will you use the information you
learned in this report in your own life -- personal and/or
professional? (Note: the reaction may be
as long as you would like, but a minimum of 1/2 page is required.)

Evaluation:
Evaluation will be based on the
following: Level of difficulty of articles (i.e. Readers Digest vs.
professional journal), completeness, appropriateness or topic,
quality of thought expressed in summary and reaction, presentation.
