Research Assignment

* Before beginning assignment, you must sign up with instructor. A synapses of your paper will be presented in class.

1.         Disease/disorder/condition.  Acquisition? How many children are affected

           by this disease or disorder?  Is it genetic?  Is it gender-specific?  Is it

           communicable?  Is this caused by  prenatal exposure or certain

           lifestyle? (i.e., exposure to drugs, alcohol, STDs, inadequate nutrition, lack

           of medical care, etc.) (25 points)

2.         What is the history of this disease/disorder/condition? Who/what

           where/when was it discovered?  How long has it been around? (10

           points)

3.         What are the symptoms? Signs?  How does it affect the child?  How

           does it progress?  Is it fatal?  How will the child be affected?  How

           will they have to adjust? (25 points)                                                                       

4.         What can be done?  What can parents do to prevent this situation?  What

           type of research is going on?  What can help? (10 points)

5.         What is the prognosis?  What is the outlook in the future with regards to

           this disease/disorder/condition?  What does the future hold? (10 points)

6.         Pictures/ graphs/charts? Diagrams? (10 points)

7.         Collegiate writing & format, footnotes, bibliography?  (10 points)
