1. In one sentence,
summarize the plot.
2. What subject or
theme does the story examine? (What does the story seem to be
worried about?)
3. Do you recognize
any verbal or dramatic irony? Give examples.
4. Where is the
climax or turning point(s) in the story? (Identify page and
paragraph.) Look for a change in fortune, or a reversal.
5. How does the
setting (environment as well as objects) support the theme?
6. Write a paragraph
connecting this story to another story the class has read.
7. What is the
narrative point of view, and how does this use of that point of view
affect your judgment of the character and setting.
8. What is the
author's attitude toward his or her main character? What adjectives,
metaphors, or similes are used to describe that character?
9. Choose any one
sentence from the story that seems to you particularly
significant--for any reason--and copy it, identifying the paragraph.
Then explain the reason for your choice.
10. Give your
personal reaction and comments using specific references to the
text.
