2. What subject or theme does the story examine? (What does the story seem to be worried about?)

3. Do you recognize any verbal or dramatic irony? Give examples.

4. Where is the climax or turning point(s) in the story? (Identify page and paragraph.) Look for a change in fortune, or a reversal.

5. How does the setting (environment as well as objects) support the theme?

6. Write a paragraph connecting this story to another story the class has read.

7. What is the narrative point of view, and how does this use of that point of view affect your judgment of the character and setting.

8. What is the author's attitude toward his or her main character? What adjectives, metaphors, or similes are used to describe that character?

9. Choose any one sentence from the story that seems to you particularly significant--for any reason--and copy it, identifying the paragraph. Then explain the reason for your choice.

10. Give your personal reaction and comments using specific references to the text.
