Essay Assignment #2: Research Paper

Background:

With this essay, we will fully enter the world of research. In class, we have discussed and practiced how to write a good research paper. For this essay, you will take the techniques we learned in class and apply them to a paper of your own.

Task:

Choose a classic or controversial film and answer the following question: What makes your chosen film powerful?   

A successful essay will:

Ø  Contain a clear assertion of your position (thesis statement) early in the paper—this should not be a summary of the film, but an argument about what makes your film powerful.

Ø  Discuss specific aspects of your chosen film.

Ø  Incorporate at least two outside sources—these sources can be credible internet sources, journal articles, magazine articles, newspaper articles, or books.

Ø  Use correct MLA format.

Ø  Utilize well-focused sentences and paragraphs.

Ø  Be carefully proofread.

Ø  Be 1500 words long.
