- Disable pop-up blockers
Pop-up blockers are applications that work in the background while you browse the Internet. When they detect a pop-up window that may be an unwanted advertisement, they automatically close the window. This feature prevents Blackboard from functioning properly. They interfere with tests, the discussion board, opening video clips and more.
Most people don't know that they have one or more pop-up blockers installed on their computer. This is because these programs are often anonymously included with other programs including but not limited to Windows updates that are downloaded.
*Hint: Hold down the Ctrl key when you try to open a clip in your course. If it opens, you definitely have a pop-up blocker that's active. This doesn't work with all pop-up blockers, but it's a good indicator that you have one.
Popup blockers may be installed as part of a browser toolbar, as part of your browser, as part of your virus protection software or even as a separate program.
