This course covers Web animation and interface production techniques using Adobe Flash Creative Studio 3 (CS3) Professional. It is for both Mac and PC users. Students do not need prior experience with Flash, but should know how to create simple Web sites using HTML or Adobe Dreamweaver.

This course may be described as a "blended course" in which we will be meeting face-to-face once a week for 3 hours (Tuesdays, 6-8:50pm), but assignments and online discussion will be done with Blackboard, so please use these valuable resources to help you get the most out of this course. You may also be interested in what I as the instructor must consider to do my best.

GD222-Flash Web Animation is part of a Graphic Design Degree Program at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California. This course may serve as an elective for an Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) or as an elective for a Web Design Certificate. Flash skills are becoming more marketable each day. While this course is introductory in nature, talented students may expect to use much of what they learn from it to seek employment.

This course is based on a previous Flash course given by Prof. Jodi Reed, and she has been kind enough to provide her course content for me to use and modify. If you observe what appear to be similarities bordering on plagiarism, the author has kindly granted permission.

Many of the more advanced features have changed with Flash CS3, but the basic Flash interface still remains pretty much the same, thankfully. However, you will be required to use Flash CS3 near the end of the semester when we learn about ActionScript 3.0 and Components (lessons 7 and 8 in the text). The first five 'Chapters', which the text calls 'Lessons', do not require Flash CS3. Lesson 6 uses ActionScript 3.0 to run, but it is provided for you and not part of the actual lesson except for a brief reference at the end of the lesson. I have created Flash 8 versions of the files for Lessons 1 through 6. Links to these files are available through the Schedule.

Perhaps the best reason to invest in Adobe Creative Studio Web Standard or Web Premium (see the Syllabus for details on where to buy) is the bundled support provided through Adobe Bridge. It is outstanding. There are video tutorials on every aspect of Flash, with wonderful examples that go way beyond the scope of this course.
