GD 222 Flash Web Animation - Spring, 2009
Online Course
http://www.cuyamaca.edu/jeff.sale/gd222/

News
Baro

This Spring 2009, GD 222 will be offered as a hybrid course, partly in-class on Wednesdays, 6-8:50pm, and partly on-line.  We'll use Adobe Flash CS4 to create animations, banner ads, cartoons, and Web interfaces. Those of you who have Flash CS3 should be OK, but older versions are probably too outdated for some of the important features of Flash that we will cover in this course. I check e-mail fairly regularly, so let  me know if you have any questions.

I will update the syllabus and schedule regularly, so please don't do any assignments early unless you check with me first.   If you want to get started early:

  • be sure you have convenient and reliable access to Flash
  • send me an email
  • login to Blackboard, read announcement, do assignments
  • get your books and start reading, learning, and creating!

Textbook for Spring 2009 - should be available at the campus bookstore or online

CS4 VQSG

I have chosen a textbook, Flash CS4 Professional for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide. The Cuyamaca College bookstore should have copies soon, but you will also find it on Amazon at the link above.

The Visual QuickStart series typically does not have such complete examples, but they make up for it with an extremely well-organized text containing many valuable details and tips about Flash that the Classroom-In-A-Book series completely overlooks.

Upcoming Conferences

Adobe FlashForward Conference

The 2009 Conference date is not set yet, but it is usually in September. This is the largest Flash user conference in the world. I will not be able to attend, but I will try to post related events of interest as they occur.

Last year's conference highlighted the work of John Maeda. Some of you may already be familiar with John Maeda's work, but many may not. He does some very interesting, very simple, interactive widgets. He seems to have a sufficient understanding of enough prototyping tools like Flash and PHP that he just creates these little 'ditties' of design simplicity. Honestly, some of them aren't that interesting (don't tell anyone I said that), but alot of them are, and there are so many! Check out his work at the following links:
