This course covers Web animation and interface production techniques using Adobe Flash Creative Suite 4 (CS4) Professional. It is for both Mac and PC users. Students do not need prior experience with Flash, but should know how to create simple Web sites using HTML or Adobe Dreamweaver.

This course may be described as a "blended course" in which we will be meeting face-to-face once a week for 3 hours (Tuesdays, 1-3:50pm, Room 228, Building E), but assignments and online discussion will be done with Blackboard, so please use these valuable resources to help you get the most out of this course. You may also be interested in what I as the instructor must consider to do my best.

GD222-Flash Web Animation is part of a Graphic Design Degree Program at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California. This course may serve as an elective for an Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) or as an elective for a Web Design Certificate. Flash skills are becoming more marketable each day. While this course is introductory in nature, talented students may expect to use much of what they learn from it to seek employment.

I have taught this course for three semesters and I have learned much from the many talented students I have had the pleasure of attending my classes. I look forward to an equally great experience with you.

Many of the more advanced features changed with Flash CS3, particularly the introduction of ActionScript 3.0. Flash CS4 maintains its focus on AS 3.0, and the basic Flash interface still remains pretty much the same, thankfully. We will be focusing on AS 2.0 early on in the semester, but you will be required to use some AS 3.0 near the end of the semester when we learn about Components.

Perhaps the best reason to invest in Adobe Creative Studio Web Standard or Web Premium (see the Syllabus for details on where to buy) is the bundled support provided through Adobe Bridge. It is outstanding. There are video tutorials on every aspect of Flash, with wonderful examples that go way beyond the scope of this course.
