General Education Survival Kit
The GE Taskforce decided to design this six page handout called The General Education Survival Kit and it was adopted by the Academic Senate and the Curriculum committee. The Kit has made it easier for faculty to complete the GE certification/recertification process. The faculty member would fill out the forms and attach it to their existing course outlines. Presentation of the Kit was done in the Fall of 1998 and Spring 1999. The Taskforce and Curriculum Committee held Staff Development workshops to show faculty how to fill out the Survival Kit forms.

DIRECTIONS for completing course addition forms

  • A "Cuyamaca College General Education Reform" document listing the requirements for each of the six GE components to be included in every GE course.
  • A blank "GE Certification Worksheet" provided for your convenience. You must furnish the Curriculum Committee with this completed worksheet.
  • A sample completed "GE Certification Worksheet".
  • A sample course outline prepared for GE certification.

Directions: To certify a course for inclusion in the General Education package:

  • Review your course outline to determine if the course meets the GE component requirements as listed in the "Cuyamaca College General Education Reform" document.

  • If your course meets the GE component requirements - using dark ink, simply note on the course outline how and where the GE component requirements are met (please refer to the sample outline attached at the end of this document).

  • Please note: If you have revised the course outline, you will need to complete a Course Modification form.

  • If your course does not meet the GE component requirements, please revise the course outline and:

  • Prepare a Course Modification form (other documents may be required)

  •  Prepare a new course outline (including Entrance and Exit skills).

  • Using dark ink, note on the course outline how and where the GE component requirements are met.

  • If you are preparing a new course for GE certification, please prepare a course outline and, using dark ink, note on the course outline how and where the GE component requirements are met.

  • Submit the prepared materials and GE worksheet along with all appropriate forms to the Curriculum Committee (contact Joan Burak to determine which additional forms may be required).
