Advanced Web Development covers advanced Web design and production using the latest version of Adobe Dreamweaver. The course includes intermediate CSS and Dreamweaver database integration (with PHP/MySQL). Students need to understand how to use Dreamweaver (site manager, code viewer, how to make links, etc.) and should be able to create a database (any database application is fine). See entry skills for a list of skills covered in CIS 212. See the syllabus for detailed course information. If you have database experience but have not completed the CIS 140 recommended prerequisite, contact me to find out if you have enough experience to succeed. If you have not taken CIS 212, you will need to clear the prerequisite.
CIS 213 is offered online and as a hybrid course (face-to-face 3 hours per week, online 2 hours per week). The course will meet Thursday evenings from 5-7:50pm. These 2 sections are tied, which just means it is ONE course split into two sections. Both sections are full, so please get on the wait list and read WebAdvisor Waitlist FAQ's if you are not enrolled.
Students need to have access to a reliable computer with the latest version of Dreamweaver and a high bandwidth Internet connection. See How an Online Class Works for details.
Jodi uses Moodle for class management (quizzes, grades, turning in work, discussion). Moodle accounts are set up the weekend before classes begin. All course Web pages link to the Moodle login. Let Jodi know if you are unable to log in to Moodle after the first day of class with your college user name (usually first.last) and password changeme. The course materials will be ready when the semester begins. You should receive a welcome email with instructions by Monday, January 28. This email is sent from Moodle to the email address you provided to WebAdvisor (do you need to see how to change your WebAdvisor address?) Contact Jodi if you don't get a welcome email.
Here's what you can do in January before class begins:
- Add the course if you have not done so. Please do this ASAP -- this will add you to the roster. You cannot add the class late, even if you have done all the course work. Use WebAdvisor to add this class.
- Review the textbook. See the syllabus for textbook information.
- After class begins you should get a welcome email from me via Moodle. LET ME KNOW if you don't get a welcome email.
- ONLINE STUDENTS and those who want to work at home:
- Purchase and install Dreamweaver. See the syllabus for details about academic pricing.
It may take a few weeks to get used to how things are done. Plan to spend a little extra time at first and don't hesitate to email or stop in during office hours if you feel lost.
