Cheverny Return to the index page

The Chateau de Cheverny’s design was inspired by the Luxembourg Palace in Paris and was built by  Hurault family of 13th century.  Inhabited for over 700 years the chateau is set in a formal and symetric entrance but surrounded by informal gardens and walks.  The highlights include a kennel with a  pack of 70 hunting hounds ( crosses English foxhounds and French “Poitevins”)  These hunting dogs were undoubtedly responsible for their master's collection in the trophy gallery where there are more than 2000 deer horns.

As for  the gardens, while there were some interesting specimens, the overall grounds were the least impressive of the chateaus we visited.

The kennel

The dogs crave the attention (and treats) of the keeper.

They also love to get the tourists to pet them as well.
