Dr. Tom Doyle received a Ph.D. in psychology from Arizona State University with a B.A. in psychology from the Santa Clara University. After teaching as an adjunct psychology instructor at Grossmont College, San Diego State University, and MiraCosta College, he became a founding member of the full-time faculty at Cuyamaca College (where he remains today). At Cuyamaca College, he served as Chair of the Behavioral Sciences, coordinated psychology since the college's opening, and pioneered in the areas of online and distance learning. He continued to teach at San Diego State University for 25 years.
Dr. Doyle's courses have included Introductory Psychology, Human Sexuality (both lower and upper division courses), Developmental Psychology, Individual Adjustment, Learning, Perception, and Abnormal Psychology. He has taught Native-Americans at the Viejas Reservation in Alpine, CA, and Camp Pendleton Marines at MiraCosta College. At SDSU, he was an interim director of graduate teaching assistants, participated in an experimental interdisciplinary program called "Coordinated Freshman Studies," and taught in the "Honors Psychology" program.
Besides his continued commitment to teaching, Dr. Doyle has authored an Instructor's Manual and lecture transparencies for Rod Plotnik's Introduction to Psychology textbook. Always interested in using new technology and exploring alternative delivery methods (he taught in the Telecourse program for 15 years), Dr. Doyle is now developing interactive, multimedia approaches to teaching (see below). For his Fall 08 sabbatical, he developed an online teaching resource site for the college (Online Teaching Resources).
Dr. Doyle has also developed and published six versions of the interactive multimedia project, PowerStudy for Introduction to Psychology on DVD, which was included in many Introductory Psychology courses over its 13-year run. Next, he designed the online, interactive animation storyboards for the first edition of the Discovery Series edition of the Plotnik/Kouyoumdjian Introductory Psychology textbook. He is currently designing an innovative Web Site which will give interactive multimedia insight into some of the thought-provoking issues in psychology.
