Babysitter Training for Ages 11 and Up
This course, offered in conjunction with American Red Cross, provides individuals with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This fun, interactive course teaches first aid and safety skills to prevent and respond to emergencies. As a Red Cross trained babysitter, youth gain confidence and valuable employment skills to impress parents. Bring a sack lunch and a 12-14" baby doll for diapering practice.

1. Sustainable Fire Resistant Building and Design

This seminar offers insight and suggestions on how to build or rebuild more fire resistant homes and structures. It builds on the personal experience of people who experienced fire losses in East County Fires. Lessons learned and preferred materials will be covered along with innovative new design approaches.

2. Energy Conservation & Introduction to Solar Thermal (Solar Hot Water Heaters)

This session provides information on energy conservation & efficiency as well as different solar water heating technologies and their appropriate applications. Information will be provided on the new Solar Water Heating Pilot Program, open to SDG & E electric customers who can receive up to $1500 in incentives for the installation of a qualifying solar water heater.

3. Introduction to Green Roof Design & Construction

This session familiarizes participants with existing green roof technologies, their design and construction, especially in arid climates. Discover the significant social, economic and environmental returns on investment from those who have created and installed green roofs in San Diego County. Benefits include reduced energy costs., filtering and lessening storm water runoff, extended roof life, habitat restoration and fire retardation.

4. Utility Scale Wind Energy and Wind Farm Tour
East San Diego County is home to the new Kumeyaay Wind Farm near the Golden Acorn Casino.  This tremendous asset allows us to reduce our dependence on electricity produced from non-local fossil fuels.  Wind energy is competitive because the fuel source is free!  We will have a guided tour through the Wind Farm and learn how wind power works in general and this new wind farm in particular.
