Communication Arts Forum for Teaching Excellence Presenter(s): Timothy L. Pagaard Our most valuable asset at Cuyamaca College is our constellation of innovative teachers, both full- and part-time. And our best vehicle for nurturing effectiveness in the classroom is the sharing of ideas. Semester after semester, our open forum has been a huge success. We offer it again this time. Our primary focus will be on pedagogical strategies in the communication arts, but anyone is welcome who is anxious to teach writing and reading better. Come prepared to share your best discoveries. Come with questions and problems. Come ready to collaborate with your colleagues. This time our focus will be on incorporating Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) into the curriculum.Managing Your E-mail 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CC-S-475 Moved to TLC Presenter(s): Debbi Smith Tips, tricks, and techniques for keeping the @gcccd.edu email account working for you. Learn to archive your email so that it is available, but does not count in the quota. Learn to leverage the email so that it is a tool for you and not a monster to be tamed each day.
Colleague System - Demonstration & Questions Presenter(s): Sheri Willis Real time, on-line demonstration of the roster capability which faculty will be getting with the Colleague system. Opportunity for questions and input into the final look and feel of the rosters available in the Colleague system.
RSS and
Blogging for Educators Presenter(s): Kari Wergeland Learn the basics of RSS – Really Simple Syndication. I will include examples of student RSS assignments, as well as how to add RSS feeds to a Bloglines account. In addition, I will go over how to create your own blog using a Blogger account.

Biology Training Workshop Presenter(s): Kathryn Nette This is a mandatory workshop for all instructors for Bio 130 and Bio 131. We will be discussing new equipment/lab exercises, and SLO information for the lecture and lab. If you are teaching one of these classes, we need you! Please bring a copy of your syllabus with you.
Chemistry Lab Workshop Presenter(s): Laurie LeBlanc A hands-on workshop providing information and procedures for chemistry labs along with the opportunity to perform them. Vernier data acquisition systems will be available for use, along with classroom demonstration materials and video demonstration CDs can be viewed. This workshop is intended for chemistry faculty but everyone is welcome.

Helping Students Afford
to Stay in College Presenter(s): Ernie Williams Informational class: The class will present members with information and ideas that will enable them to assist their students as it pertains to scholarships. The class will include an overview of the scholarship process, and the scope of the individualized reference letter, as well as faculty members’ expectations from the student for whom the letter of reference is to be written.

SLO Training Open to All Faculty in Department Presenter(s): Susan Haber Department meeting for SLO training open to all faculty in department. Participants will learn how to incorporate SLOs into their syllabi. Please bring your class syllabus with you on a CD or flash drive. Faculty will also participate in writing SLOs into course outlines. Discussion of college plan for next steps for SLOs will also be on the agenda.
