Minutes of the Phi Theta Kappa
December 19, 2008

I. Call to Order
President Charles Taylor called the meeting of Phi Theta Kappa to order at 3:30pm.
II. Better World Books Book Drive
Suzzette Sinclair has all the books that must be sent to Better World Books. To get more money for the books that have already been collected, the books must be sent by the first of the year. A record needs to be kept of the number of boxes sent. Suzzette has not only been collecting books on campus, but she has also been collecting books from Off Campus Books that students have left behind.
III. Vice President of Scholarship
The current vice president of scholarships has missed three consecutive meetings. Officers were given the choice of sending the vice president of scholarships a final notice, or declare the seat vacant. The seat was declared vacant by majority rule.
Note to officers: President Charles Taylor does understand that a meeting may need to be missed due to personal reasons, however officers need to respond to e-mails, phone calls, etc.
Cleveland Chiropractic College is offering an 8 week interim class. The school is located in both Los Angeles and Kansas City.
V. Executive Vice President Position
President Charles Taylor will be electing someone to this position. This person will be responsible for running meetings if Charles is unable to attend.
VI. Induction Ceremony
The podium banners, table banners, candles, and other items used during the induction ceremony are missing. President Charles Taylor believes a member who is no longer a part of the chapter has the items. He will look into getting the items from that person. Advisor Lisa Chaddock suggests buying new banners for the induction ceremony. Once we have all of the materials for the
Ceremony, we will be able to place them in our own cabinet located in the meeting room.
Advisor Lisa Chaddock reported that 50 new members this year. Due to the increase in membership our chapter received a scholarship, to send one student to the National Convention in April. The scholarship is a $690 value.
VIII. Community Service
During the meetings members made blankets for two soldiers who have been wounded in battle and are in route home. V.P. of Service, Suzzette Sinclair, provided the materials for the blankets and other members helped to assemble them. Suzzette also brought Christmas cards to be sent to soldiers overseas. All members participated in signing the cards.
IX. Rescue Task Force
President Charles Taylor attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the building at Cuyamaca College dedicated to the Rescue Task Force founder Gary D. Becks. Rescue Task Force is a non-profit organization that responds to both natural and man-made disasters world wide. Advisor Lisa Chaddock suggests that our chapter be very involved in Rescue Task Force because of the close connection our campus has with the organization.
X. Leadership Lesson
President Charles Taylor held a leadership lesson. His lesson included a reading about Aristotle.
XI. Guest Speakers
President Charles Taylor would like to have guest speakers at our meetings. He would like speakers to be people that are able to speak on a leadership level. V.P. of Fellowship, Cecelia Kenner, will be in charge of finding speakers for our meetings.
Cecelia Kenner will be contacting the Grossmont College Chapter to find out if they will be attending the National Convention in April.
Congratulations to this month’s winners who received tickets to the men’s SDSU basketball game, tickets to the Zoo, cookies, and brownies.
XIV. Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held Friday, January 16, 2009. The Officer meeting will begin at 3:00pm and the General meeting will begin at 4:00pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30pm.
