INTRODUCTION TO
COMPUTER LAB
Your computer screen should show a box
with a space to enter a name and a password.
STEP
ONE: In the box marked name
type your first initial and 7 letters of your last name, no
spaces and not capital letters! If your name is Sergio Martinez then you
would type=>smartine
Press tab and enter your date
of birth where it says password. Type month•day•year with two
digits. If your birthday is July 4, 1972, type 070472.
Next,
press the enter key two times.
If
the computer does NOT let you enter,
Type
the word guest in the box marked name. You do not need to
enter anything in the password box.
Next,
press the enter key two times.
STEP
TWO: When you have a blue or green
screen, use the mouse to move the arrow to START.
Click
on START and hold the button down and move the arrow to PROGRAMS.
Click
on PROGRAMS. and hold the button down and move the arrow to MICROSOFT
OFFICE 97.
Click
on MICROSOFT OFFICE 97 and hold the button down and move the
arrow to MICROSOFT WORD.
Click
on MICROSOFT WORD.. This will bring up a blank page and you are
ready to begin working. Following the directs for the day's Lab assignment.
SAVING
YOUR WORK: Click on the file menu,
click on save as, click on drive H; and type a name file name (no
more than 7 letters, no periods, dashes or commas). Press enter.
Hint:
choose a file name that you will remember so you know what the topic is -- Your
name and the topic will work.
