 Information

Scholarship Background:

Completing a scholarship application package is similar to turning in a job application.  Having a completed application, in hand, is the only way a sponsor has to understand each applicant.  The application needs to provide him with information as to who you are, what your needs are, where you fit in reference to their scholarship, when does the new semester start for you, why they should award you their scholarship, and how you stand in comparison to the other candidates.

Receiving a scholarship requires that applicants provide the best scholarship package possible.  To do this requires that applicants understand what information is being requested of them in the scholarship package.  Some sponsors make this process easy and clear, while other are a little more challenging.  The requested information includes a completed scholarship application, which in its self includes personal information, high school, work, volunteer and college participation, a personal statement, official transcripts, and one or more reference letters.  Each of these items is a key piece of the puzzle that makes up the competative scholarship package.  The key question is: how can I maximize my potential for scholarship success?  The answer to this questiom is found in the "Building a Scholarship Package" paragraphs below and the associated links.

- Building a Scholarship Package:

Text Box:   Use of Time:
Is the best tool available for searching for scholarship.  Always give yourself enough time to complete an entier scholarship package, this mean no 30 daay turn around application, but look at scholarships with 60 or more days until the scholarship is due.
Give your references enough time to complete their letters, do not ask anyone at the last minute because the letter may not be optimuly writen.
Provide yourself enough time to mail the package to the sonsor or to take it into the Cuyamca College Scholarship Specialist.

Text Box:   Understand Appliation:
The key to completing your application correctly is to read the scholarship application and any associated paperwork in its entierty, this will help determine what informaton your can provide.
On a seperate copy of the original applicaton fill in the pertinante information by hand.  Keep this rough draft until the final draft is completed.
Ask more people for references letters than the scholarship requires, this will provide you with enough reference letter so that a clear strong selection can be made.
Read and clearly undertand the sponsors criteria for a personal statment.
