The purpose of CC Library’s assessment plan is to collect and analyze data that measures how well students are learning the components of information competency.  Are our students learning what we think is essential to becoming information competent?  If not, should our teaching strategies be modified?  What other approaches and resources would help our students learn more effectively?

GOAL 1: Student Information competency skills measurement of assessment and criteria for success:

As of this date 04/25/08, we are developing our assessment tools. We expect to have sixty percent of the students who respond in a library assessment survey will report that they understand how to find information using electronic sources, including books, published articles, multi-media, and web sites. The evaluation will be administered during a representative sample of instruction sessions.

Assessment of student learning outcomes is different from evaluation of teaching, or evaluation of a library instruction session. Teaching evaluations focus on such things as the student's perception of the session, a student's feelings about the session of the library, and subjective aspects such as the librarian's teaching style or presentation skills. Assessment of student learning focuses on whether or not the student has learned what the librarian set out to teach.

GOAL 2: Collection development measure of assessment and criteria for success:
