How to...
To get credit for a paper in my class, you must demonstrate understanding of the material covered during the unit. Each essay is the central theme of each Learning Unit. They are worth 10 points each and are due on the exam day for that unit.
Here is the grading criteria that I use when I read the papers:
10 - Uses vocabulary from the unit and examples from the unit in the essay. Idea is well developed and it is a complete essay
8 - Uses vocabulary form the unit but with limited examples. Idea is developed and it is a complete essay
6 - Uses common sense language. Idea is developed and has a complete essay
4 - Uses common sense language. idea is developed but incomplete essay
2 - wrote something about the topic
Unit number 1 : What is the Mind?
Here is a section from one of the papers that a student turned in, that uses class terms related to the central theme of the MIND.
You need to include 5 terms from each module....
The mind is an understanding of our brains activity. Our entire brain has function to produce conscious experience. The early psychologists studied their subjects sensation and perception and analyze the structure of the mind. These Structuralists failed because the structure of the mind is not in the sensation and perception, but rather in the change of behavior. James (the founder of modern psychology) founded Functionalism to study how the mind produced measurable behavior. His concept answered questions about the nature of the mind, and how it worked, but studying behavior and how each person uses their sensation and perception to adapt to the changing world. John Watson came along, and really believed that by being studying just the persons behavior, the mind was not in question, therefore not required for psychology.
Unit Number 2 : How can we use Science to understand the Mind?
Unit Number 3 : How does your mind alter the perception of others?
Unit number 4: How did your mind develop?
Unit number 5: Can we use the mind to help people?
