Sniffy the rat


Students will be able to...... Virtually no rats will be harmed and we still will be able to learn about procedures of Classical Conditioning and Operant Conditioning. Virtual Shock will be used that virtually does not hurt, or cause virtual trauma to the Virtual Rat.  Virtual food will be used which is virtually fat free as not to make the rat virtually fat.

Task 1:  Learn how to use the Rat.  

OBJECTIVES:  Students will be able to identify the components of the Sniffy program.

 Measurable Student learning outcomes:  Students will be able to answer questions on a quiz about the functions of various Sniffy components.

 

Task 2:  Classically Condition your Sniffy. 

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to use classical conditioning procedures to produce a CR in Sniffy through various techniques of respondent conditioning.

 Measurable Student Learning Outcomes: Students will produce the data output of their conditioned virtual Rat.

 

Task 3:   Shape Sniffy to ...

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to describe the process of shaping Sniffy to produce various behaviors.

 Measurable Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to produce in writing the methods and performance of their rat while being shaped.

 

Task 4:  Discrimination Training (choose Project 4)

OBJECTIVES: Students will produce a discrimination procedure between the two tones in the operant chamber.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to describe in writing and produce data that show their rat has successfully demonstrated object discrimination.

 

Task 5 Schedules!!!

Objectives:  Students will train Sniffy on various schedules of Reinforcements and document the schedule effects and extinction resistance.

Measurable Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to identify the correct pattern of responding and determine the schedule of reinforcement used.
