Morning workout: Crest circle

13.9 miles

To Crest from home

Home to old Chula Vista

When I don't have more than an hour, I cycle from home in EastLake, westward down Otay Lakes Road, which becomes Telegraph Canyon Road, to just short of I-805 and the old part of Chula Vista. This is a great warm-up, allowing me to spin for miles slightly downhill on a false flat that makes me feel like Superman. At Crest Drive I turn up a hill that is technically "beyond category," short but nasty, ultimately arriving at East J Street at the top.

Home from Crest

Homeward to EastLake via H Street

East on J Street is generally uphill, and I encounter three more challenging hills before shifting north on Paseo Ranchero to East H Street. Passing Southwestern College at Otay Lakes Road, I continue to EastLake Parkway, where I turn south around the fake lake and arrive home an hour or so after departure.

This ride is epecially nice if taken really early, before there are cars on the road. I generally ride from 4:15 to 5:15 am. I've made the whole ride without stepping down.
