I. Call to Order

President Charles Taylor called the meeting of Phi Theta Kappa to order at 3:00pm.

II. Canyon River Clean-Up

At last month's Canyon clean-up there were volunteers from one area high school and two colleges along with other service groups including the YMCA. There were 88 volunteers in total that helped to fill one roll off dumpster. I Love a Clean San Diego thanks all of the volunteers. Another clean up will take place December 6th.

III. Book Drive

We have been collecting books for the book drive in the collection bins on campus. Many of the books we have been receiving do not meet the criteria. Skyline Church is having a book drive this week and the books that we are not able to turn into Better World Books may be turned in at the church.

IV. Scholarships

Marymount University is offering a $6,000 scholarship to Phi Theta Kappa members.

V. Emergency Preparedness

President Charles Taylor ordered pamphlets on earthquake preparedness from the Office of Emergency Services for Phi Theta Kappa officers. He encourages everyone to read over the material and prepare themselves for future earthquakes that may affect our area.

VI. Pinnicle Award

Our chapter won the pinnicle award and a scholarship to the convention in Grape Vine, Texas in April. The scholarship is for one student's registration. Additional expenses will include room and board for both the advisor and student attending, as well as registration for the advisor attending. We would like to send a member from our chapter that will be involved next year and will be able to pass down the information they have received.

VII. Cards for Our Soldiers

Suzette brought cards for each officer to sign and write a short message to a soldier over seas.

VIII. Honors in Action

The Honors study topic for this year is the Paradox of Affluence. Our chapter needs to begin planning a project that pertains to the Honors study topic. During Earth Day on campus our chapter should schedule a film to play and invite community leaders to discuss the film.

IX. Next Meeting

The next officers' meeting will be held Friday, December 19, 2008 at 3:00pm.

X. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm.

Members Present: See sign in sheet.

II. Induction Ceremony

We need to begin planning our induction ceremony for this year. Members decided to have a more formal ceremony. We need to decide on a location and we would like to have a prominent person in the community speak during the ceremony (i.e., an elected official or business leader).

III. Earthquake Preparedness

Lisa Chaddock encourages everyone to set up an account on Twitter.com. Twitter is a messaging system that will remain operable during a disaster. It will allow those with an account to send messages via text message to their families. For more information on Twitter visit the web site.

IV. Scholarships

Marymount University is offering a $6,000 scholarship to Phi Theta Kappa members. Members must have a 3.5 GPA, be a full time student and have completed 30 or more units.

V. New members

New members were given a chance to ask officers any questions they may have regarding Phi Theta Kappa.

VI. Prizes

Congratulations to this month's winner who received tickets to the Wild Animal Park. Tickets were provided by Taylor Orona.
