Phi Theta Kappa Minutes

April 17, 2009 Meeting

Officers Present: see sign in sheet.

Advisor: Lisa Chaddock

I. Introduction

President Charles Taylor called the meetings of Phi Theta Kappa to order at 4:05pm.

II. Bylaws

The Chapter's bylaws were written in 1999 and have since become out dated. Changes were made to the existing bylaws regarding student eligibility. Students must now have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for Phi Theta Kappa. The new eligibility requirements match with the requirements of National.

The requirements of officers were also changed. Officers must now only have a 3.0 GPA and are no longer required to have an ASG card holder. Now under Article 6, the president and vice president will be able to fill the position for one year. All other offices may be held for one semester at a minimum. Under Article 9, all active members will no longer be required to pay local dues each semester.

After all revisions have been made to the bylaws, the revised copy must be sent to National's/ headquarters for approval.

III. Elections

There will be officer positions becoming available for the following semester.

IV. Induction Ceremony

The induction ceremony will be held on May 21, 2009 at 5pm. Officers will need to arrive one hour early to greet guests. The event will be business attire.

President Charles Taylor reported that everything is on track for the event and that he will be checking on the cake order and catering.

V. Foundation Dinner Dance

The Foundation Dinner Dance will be held on May 16th at 5:00pm. Our organization will be helping at the event.

VI. Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Kiwanis Club is collecting the aluminum tabs off soda cans for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. To help with their efforts, please collect your soda can tabs and bring them with you to the next meeting.

VII. Volunteer Events

Vice President of Service Suzzette Sinclair reported that there will be two opportunities for our organization to get involved in the community. On April 19, 2009 volunteers are able to spend a Day at the Docks with service members fishing. There is also a volunteer opportunity at Joan Embry's ranch on April 26, 2009.

VIII. Leadership Lesson

Vice President of Leadership Patsy French shared this month's lesson which was on ethics and leadership.

IX. Special Activity

President Charles Taylor had meeting attendees participate in a communication and perception exercise. This activity was to illustrate that when giving instructions, they can be perceived differently by different people although the instructions given to each person may be exactly the same.

X. Prizes

Congratulations to this month's winners. Their names will be posted on the Phi Theta Kappa bulletin board on campus.

XI. Next Meeting

The next meeting of Phi Theta Kappa will be held Friday, May 15, 2009. May's meeting will be a rehearsal for the May 21 Induction Ceremony.

As a special note, President Charles Taylor emphasized once again that children are welcome at all Phi Theta Kappa meetings. If you must bring them, please do.

XII. Adjournment

President Charles Taylor adjourned the meeting of Phi Theta Kappa at 5:00pm.
