Time Management

Time Management Help for Students
  • No exceptions for missing deadline penalties, but include extra-credit make-up work in your course that can be used for any purpose
  • Give dates for not only assignment deadlines, but also for what student should be working on to complete the assignments on time (for example, in Announcements: "You should have read the first half of chapter 1."
Deadline panic
  • Make frequent announcements reminding students of deadlines
  • Shorten deadline periods by dividing up work into smaller sections that are worth less in point value (therefore, each deadline becomes less critical)
Not enough time
  • Tell students to use a calendar to schedule study periods, set absolute times for being online, choose an area to work without distractions
  • Create a flow chart with dates - a clear, detailed, schedule with firm deadlines and clear descriptions of penalties
Getting behind
  • Find ways to check on student progress "so far" (such as drafts)
  • Break assignments into shorter segments
