Before you begin to attend ES010

 

ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT CHECK IN BEFORE February 8th WILL BE DROPPED.

 

1.         All students must be enrolled in ES010:  Foods for Fitness for either .5 or 1.0 unit of credit.

 

2.         All students must have completed part I and part II of orientation in order to earn credit for the semester. This may be accomplished in one of two ways:

a.         Complete a semester of  ES011 or ES012  with orientation.

b.         Schedule an orientation appointment at the front desk for this semester.

 

THIS REQUIREMENT MUST BE MET BEFORE STUDENT BEGINS TO ATTEND CLASS.

 

3.         All students may obtain a copy of the textbook Foods for Fitness in the Fitness Center.  This is a workbook that has a lot of important information and written assignments.  It is good for 4 semesters of ES010.

 

4.         All students must comply with Fitness Center rules (see accompanying sheet).  Please read these rules and make sure you understand them.  See instructor with any questions you may have.

 

 

TOTAL FITNESS CIRCUIT

You must complete one circuit/24 stations per visit.

Alternate between 12 stationary cycles and 12 weight lifting machines for your aerobic workout.  Join the circuit at any empty station.  Move through the Super Circuit from the aerobic machines to the back of the facility. Follow the audio message that reminds you when to change stations and occasionally check your heart rate to ascertain whether you are at your training level.  Machines in the Super Circuit are for Super Circuit use only!  Do not attempt to weight train in the Super Circuit.

 

Required Instructional Components

 

The following describes the REQUIRED components of ES010.  All of these (except for the optional extra credit assignments) must be completed to receive credit.

 

1.         Attendance: All students must complete the required number of workout hours.  .5 unit students will be required to complete 20 hours, 1.0 unit students will be required to complete 40 hours.  Maximum of 2 hours credit per day. 

 

2.         Each student will be required to have a consultation with the registered dietician at least once during the semester. Schedule your nutrition appointment at the counter in the fitness center.

 

3.         Written Assignments: After consulting with our registered dietician, you have the option of choosing the following written components to complete and turn in for credit in ES010.

 

a.         Assignments of your choice from the Foods for Fitness workbook (3/semester)

(or)

b.         A printed summary of your diet analysis from the computer lab. (Ask our dietician for instruction).

 

4.         In addition, you will be required to complete an “exit” survey at the end of the semester in order to receive credit for the class.  Failure to complete the survey may limit access to the fitness center classes in the future.

 

Optional components for extra credit

 

1.         Written assignments from Foods for Fitness.  You may complete 3 more for up to 3 hours of extra credit.

 

2.         Guest lecture: Attendance during the semester, the Fitness Center offers a guest lecture that may be attended for extra credit hours.  This lecture is open to ES010, ES011, and ES012 students.

 

3.         After completing the required written work described in part 3 above (a or b) you may arrange to do the other part for extra credit.  Please see the instructor to exercise this option.

 

*          This course adheres to policies outlined in the Cuyamaca College Catalogue.

*          Any issues regarding makeup work, hours, or grades must be brought to the attention of the instructor for consideration before the last week of the semester.  Any level change is the responsibility of the student.

 

*          Any student caught cheating or not following Fitness Center procedures will not get credit for the class.

 

*          The use of cell phones in the Fitness Center is not permitted.

 

*          There are no classes in the Fitness Center during finals week.
