I'm so glad you've selected Eng 271. This is a very interesting course where we look at the development of literature into more complex forms. Writers tend to review the past and use it to create something new and unique. We will be reading tales of adventure, love, betrayal, mystery, psychology, philosophy, faith and more. However, in our short number of weeks, we will only have time for a taste of the incredible tales that exist. So, to begin, it is very important to realize we will be reading A LOT. We will also spend much of our time talking about what we have read on-line, so you need to participate and share your ideas.
We will look at fictional stories, plays, poetry and even read a short novel, analyzing the time period they were written in, the structure of the societies they represent, the philosophy and culture of those societies, as well as gender and minority roles within those societies. We will also take time to discuss how the works relate to our day and our society.
I hope that you enjoy all the wonderful pieces of literature we will be reading; I know I will! Check out the syllabus, and I look forward to seeing you in class. |
