Summer 2012
The Heritage of the Americas Museum is the
backdrop to see and understand survival skills developed all over the world. In
this course, you will build a model shelter, make fire by friction, rig and lift
a weight using a rope and pulleys. You will follow an orienteering course using a
compass and learn to use a lever and fulcrum, saw with a 2-person cross-cut saw
and use a wooden yoke to carry a burden. You will hear campfire stories and learn
about the Oregon Trail. The course will end with a hobo cookout. Bring
drinking water and a hat. Entering Grades 5th through 9th.

Explore your artistic talents! Introduction
lessons will cover various art techniques using materials including drawing
tools and painting with watercolor and acrylics. Artifacts and art pieces of
the Heritage of the Americas Museum readily provide inspiring samples of
cultural art, designs, patterns, and more. Art appreciation will include a look
at the Art Masters as a guide to creating your own acrylic masterpiece. Bring
drinking water. Entering Grades 5th through 9th.

What is your style: abstract, detailed and
realistic, or just make an impression? Imagination is your key as you enter the
fun world of artistic creativity. Drawing techniques will be the focus as you
learn and practice skills using composition, shading, perspective, and more.
Materials will include pencil, charcoal, ink pen, watercolor pencil, and
pastels. Choose your subject of interest: nature, people, objects, animals, or
structures in the enriching environment of the Heritage of the Americas Museum.
Bring drinking water. Entering Grades 5th through 9th.
