Background
I was born and
raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Graduating from High School in 1987 I decided it
was time for a change of scenery and headed for San Diego
State University. There I remained until I graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Mathematics and a minor in Engineering. As if this wasn't enough
punishment I decided to stay and finally finish school (or so I thought) after
graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education.I worked
as a 'Freeway Flyer' for two years teaching part-time at Cuyamaca College, San Diego City
College, MiraCosta College, Palomar College
and San Diego State University. In August 1997 I was hired at
Cuyamaca College for a full time, tenure-track position in mathematics.
I love my job
and continue to stay involved through many professional
organizations such as CMC3 South
(California Mathematics Council for Community Colleges South),
AMATYC
(American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges) and
NCTM (National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics). I am currently the Exhibit Chair for CMC3
South and attend many of the conferences offered by all of these
organizations.
In Fall 2007 I
begin a new journey in my own education, starting the doctorate program in
Educational Leadership (emphasis
in community colleges) at SDSU. I am enjoying this
opportunity immensely and try to bringing some of what I learn into the
classroom.
In my
spare time I enjoy hiking, swimming, camping, traveling and I occasionally go out and kill
myself on the golf course. I am also a Trustee of the San Diego Crew Classic Foundation.
The Crew Classic is the
premier eights rowing regatta in the country and if you haven't been to
Crown Pointe on the first weekend in April you should come check us out!
I was married July 26, 1997 to Steve and we are
enjoying our life together tremendously. Our
oldest son, Charlie, born
March 28, 2003 begins Kindergarten this year and he cannot wait! He is amazing
and convinced he is the next Tiger Woods!
Our daughter, Katie, born March 29, 2005 is excited about
starting Preschool. She
listened for what has so far been the only time when I asked her to not be
born on Charlie's birthday. She loves dressing up, but is tough as
nails! You can see a few pictures of my family
to the right.
