COVID-19 Testing: The state has opened sites in Chula Vista, El Cajon and Escondido to test for active COVID-19 infection. You need to make an appointment. Testing is free, and you do not need to have symptoms. Appointments can be made online or by calling 888-634-1123. Please visit San Diego County website Testing for more information.

If you do not have a medical provider, but you have some symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath) or any questions, please call 211 to access the Public Health Nurse Line. How to protect yourself (CDC):

  • Clean your hands often
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.  Cloth Face Covering DIY (PDF)

Symptoms of Coronavirus (CDC): These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure (based on the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses)


  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
 
What To Do if You Are Sick and if Someone in Your Home Is Sick (CDC): If you have a fever, cough or other symptoms, you might have COVID-19. Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your healthcare provider. Keep track of your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), get medical attention right away.
  
When to Seek Medical Attention: If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include*
  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  • Bluish lips or face
