COMMITMENT TO EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND ANTI-RACISM
As part of the Cuyamaca community, we stand in solidarity with college wide efforts
against all forms of injustice, oppression, and racism. As such, in the delivery
of career services we realize there are both structural and systemic barriers which
can imped employability of underrepresented groups, which disproportionately impact
students from historically racially marginalized communities. This historical legacy
of exclusion and marginalization in employment calls for us, as career services practitioners
to intentionally develop anti-racist efforts to disrupt these systems of oppression.
Therefore, to influence permanent change, we are committed to being actively engaged in this anti-racist work and look to foster a sustainable culture of racial equity and inclusion in the career services we provide. To advance this effort in the workforce, we are holding ourselves accountable to the following:
- Collaborate with campus entities such as IESE and Student Services to design and provide equity-based career exploration and career readiness programs and services
- Identify partners who shared our college anti-racist values to develop partnerships with employers committed to equity in hiring processes and the workplace by ensuring they follow Equal Employment Opportunity and other non-discrimination rules
- Include students and staff from historically racially marginalized communities who understand the complexities of racism and White supremacy in direct conversations regarding development of programming and support services
- Outreach to and connect students from historically racially marginalized communities to gainful employment opportunities in efforts to close wage gaps and achieve inclusive economic growth
- Cultivate and deepen relationships with industry which have a proven investment in diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Provide culturally competent and student asset-based individualized career coaching instead of a "one size fits all" approach
- Acknowledge and identify the impact of implicit bias and commit to doing the anti-racist work that will bring forth equity
- Evolve our programs and services to be educated in anti-racist efforts as they stay current and relevant to community and workforce
- Align and support Cuyamaca's Equity Framework: Equity Mindedness, Inclusivity, Civility, Social Justice, and Unlearning Prejudice
