CIS 211 - Spring 2010
In this fundamental course in Web development you will use XHTML and CSS mark-up languages to code web sites. The course includes site and page design principles, layout, tables, forms, images, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students will complete exercises and create a final project site.
Spring Semester begins January 25, 2010.
A big debt of gratitude goes out to Jodi Reed who provided much of the curriculum I will be teaching with, including many outstanding videos and tutorials.
Learn Online or Face-to-Face
This CIS 211 section is offered online this semester. WebAdvisor may show this as CLOSED, but there should be a Priority Wait List in WebAdvisor I encourage you to add yourself to so I can add you to the course. I am required to add people from this list first before I an add others.
Since I am an adjunct professor, I do not have an office and will not be able to hold face-to-face office hours. If you require personalized assistance, please request a specific time at least a few days in advance so we may connect online for 'virtual' office hours. I am also available by email almost every work day and usually at least one weekend day. We’ll be using a great textbook and Lynda.com videos, so I think this will be a very “doable” course online.
Online students need to have access to a reliable computer with a high bandwidth Internet connection. See How an Online Class Works for details.

ONLINE STUDENTS
Here's what you can do in January before class begins:
- send me an e-mail after you enroll - attach a photo (200 x 200 pixels if you know how)
- purchase textbook
- after class begins, login to Blackboard and complete ONLINE ORIENTATION and do everything listed in WEEK 1 of the schedule.
Blackboard is used for class management (quizzes, grades, turning
in work, discussion), so part of the online orientation assignment
is to do some things in Blackboard. Blackboard
accounts are set up the weekend before classes begin. All course Web pages link to the Blackboard login. Let me know if you are unable to
log in to Blackboard after the first day of class (January 25) with your college
user name (usually first.last) and PIN (usually 6-digit birthday).
It will probably take a few weeks to get used to how I do things. This course is based on the outstanding course taught by Professor Jodi Reed, and I plan to conduct it in a similar manner. Plan to spend a little extra time at first and please feel free to email me for help at either or both of my email addresses below.
