WHAT IS THE HERITAGE OF THE AMERICAS MUSEUM?
The Heritage of The Americas Museum is the only museum
in San Diego's East County whose primary mission is the preservation of the art
and culture of the early peoples of the Americas. It is a cultural and
educational center with a unique collection of art, artifacts, and natural
history specimens displayed in four exhibit wings: Art,
Archaeology,
Anthropology, and Natural
History. The grounds surrounding the museum truly
constitute a fifth wing: the Botanical
Gardens.
When Bud Lueck,
our founder, talked about his dreams for his future museum, he always spoke of
two yellow buses pulling up filled with children about to embark on a “Journey
through Time”. Educating children was always at the top of his priorities. In
the fourteen years since the museum opened, this focus has never changed.
Of course everything we do is totally dependent
on the generosity of our wonderful volunteers. The expertise and time they
share with the students in the community is priceless and so very much
appreciated.
WHY VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers at the Heritage
Museum are the foundation by which the museum grows and thrives. Our volunteers
play an active role in day to day operations, as well as a variety of activities
and programs sponsored by the museum. Volunteers at the museum give their time
and special skills and in return they receive opportunities for continued
education and the chance to expand their knowledge of natural history,
archaeology, anthropology and art, attend special events and receive museum
store discounts. As a Heritage Museum volunteer you will be helping the museum
grow and also will have the opportunity to enlarge your circle of friends and
begin a new adventure into the rich and expansive history of the Americas.
WHO SHOULD VOLUNTEER?
Heritage of the Americas Museum Volunteers are a
remarkably diverse group, ranging in age from college students to active senior
citizens, representing a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds. There are
many opportunities available at the Museum for volunteers with a variety of
interests and skills. There is a volunteer job at the museum for you!!
