Most Common TAG Questions
Q. When do I have to complete my coursework for TAG?
A. You must complete all of your course work one full term prior to enrolling at UCSD.

Q. Can I sign a TAG contract if I am on a student visa?
A. No.

Q. Can I use a course I took Credit/No Credit for a TAG core requirement?
A. Yes, as long as the Credit grade is equivalent to a C or better.

Q. Can I use a proficiency examination to satisfy my foreign language requirement for TAG taken at an accredited university?
A. Yes, as long as you have nine years or more of formal schooling in that language and cannot provide UCSD with official documents.  UCSD only offers Arabic and Vietnamese tests.  Proficiency exams can be taken at other universities with prior approval from UCSD.  Exams taken at a community college are not acceptable.

Q.  Can I take a TAG Core course at another community college?
A.  Yes, the community college must be a UCSD TAG participating school. In addition, the course you take must be listed on that colleges' TAG agreement.

Q. I am a former UC student, am I still eligible for the TAG?
 A. Yes, beginning Winter 2006 former UC student are eligible for the TAG.  Please note the following:
 1. Students cannot repeat a UC course in which they received a "D" grade at the community college, it must be taken at a UC school
 2. Students with a "F" grade can the repeat course at community college, however the "F" grade is computed in the GPA.
 3. UCSD students that were previously admitted and registered are not California community college transfer eligible or TAG eligible.  Must use re-admission process to re-enter UCSD.
 4. UC GPA must be 2.0 or higher and Cumulative GPA must be 2.8 or higher to be admitted as TAG student.

Most Common Questions Asked about the foreign language requirement.
Q. Can I use a course in a language other than English that I took Credit/No Credit for my TAG core requirement?
A. Yes, as long as the passing grade is equivalent to a C or better.

Q. I've attended school outside of the U.S.  Can I waive my foreign language requirement for TAG?
A. Satisfactory completion, with C grades or better, of two years of formal schooling at the sixth grade level or higher in an institution where the language of institution is not English. The appropriate documentation such as a letter from the ministry of education must be present to the evaluation office to substantiate that the required coursework was completed. High school transcripts are not acceptable unless they clearly state that the two years of instruction were done in the student's native language other than English. Student who cannot provide such documentation should complete IGETC Language Other Than English requirement.

Q.  I took four years of foreign language in High school; can I use those courses for TAG?
A. Yes. Must complete two years of the same foreign language in high school with grades of "C" or better.

Q. How does Advanced Placement work to meet foreign language requirement?
A. If a score of 3 was received on an AP language exam.

Q. How does International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination work to meet foreign language requirement?

A. If a score of 5 was received on an IB language exam.

Q. I tested into and took the highest level of Spanish offered at my community college.  Will this satisfy the TAG core requirement for foreign language?
A. Yes, this will satisfy the TAG core requirement for foreign language.

Q. Is it OK to take "credit by exam" to fulfill my foreign language requirement?
A. No.

Q. Can I still get credit for my foreign language courses even if I took them out of sequence?
A. No.
