Q. When do I have to complete my coursework for TAG?
A. You must complete all of your course work one full term prior to
enrolling at UCSD.Q. Can I sign a
TAG contract if I am on a student visa?
A. No.
Q. I have attended a 4-year institution
outside of California. Can I still sign a TAG contract?
A. Yes
Q. How for in advance can I sign a TAG
contract?
A. two years prior to the intended term of transfer.
Q. Can I sign a TAG my first
semester in college?
A. No. You must have completed a minimum of 20 transferable
units prior to signing a TAG.
Q. Can I sign a TAG if my GPA is
lower than 2.8?
A. No. You must have a 2.8 GPA at the time you sign the TAG.
Q. How many credits can I take Credit/No
Credit and still satisfy TAG core?
A. You can use up to 14 transferable C/NC semester units for TAG core
and admissions in general.
Q. Can I use a course I took Credit/No
Credit for a TAG core requirement?
A. Yes, as long as the Credit grade is equivalent to a C or better.
Q. Can I use a proficiency examination to
satisfy my foreign language requirement for TAG taken at an accredited
university?
A. Yes, as long as you have nine years or more of formal schooling in
that language and cannot provide UCSD with official documents.
UCSD only offers Arabic and Vietnamese tests. Proficiency exams
can be taken at other universities with prior approval from UCSD. Exams taken at a community
college are not acceptable.
Q. How soon should my counselor send my
preliminary evaluation request for my course work from other
institutions that I have attended?
A. Your preliminary work should be evaluated prior to your signing your
TAG contract. If difficulties arise in determining transferability
or equivalency you community college counselor should send UCSD a
preliminary evaluation request ( only for four-year institutions and
two-year out of state community colleges that you have attended).
Q. Can I take a TAG Core course at
another community college?
A. Yes, the community college must be a UCSD TAG participating
school. In addition, the course you take must be listed on that
colleges' TAG agreement.
Q. I have signed a TAG contract, but now
I want to change my term of transfer; major; college. Do I need to
sign a new contract?
A. The only time you need to sign a new contract is if you are changing
your major to an impacted major. All other changes should be
reported to your counselor or the Transfer Center Coordinator who will
contact the UCSD TAG Coordinator with changes.
Q. I am a former UC student, am I still
eligible for the TAG?
A. Yes, beginning Winter 2006 former UC student are eligible for the
TAG. Please note the following:
1. Students cannot repeat a UC course in which they received a "D"
grade at the community college, it must be taken at a UC school
2. Students with a "F" grade can the repeat course at community
college, however the "F" grade is computed in the GPA.
3. UCSD students that were previously admitted and registered are not
California community college transfer eligible or TAG eligible. Must
use re-admission process to re-enter UCSD.
4. UC GPA must be 2.0 or higher and Cumulative GPA must be 2.8 or
higher to be admitted as TAG student.

foreign language requirement.
Q. Can I use a course in a language other than English that I took
Credit/No Credit for my TAG core requirement?
A. Yes, as long as the passing grade is equivalent to a C or better.
Q. I've attended school outside of the
U.S. Can I waive my foreign language requirement for TAG?
A. UCSD will waive the foreign language requirement for TAG only
if a student has 9 years or more of instruction in a non-English
speaking institution and can provide official documents (sent directly
form the institution attended to UCSD).
Q. I took four years of foreign
language in High school; can I use those courses for TAG?
A. No.
Q. How does Advanced Placement work to
meet foreign language requirement?
A. If a score of 3 was received on an AP language exam, the exam will be
used as the first required course in the foreign language sequence.
If an AP score of 4 or 5 was achieved, then no additional courses
are needed in a foreign language. Proficiency has been met.
Q. I tested into and took the highest
level of Spanish offered at my community college. Will this
satisfy the TAG core requirement for foreign language?
A. Yes, this will satisfy the TAG core requirement for foreign language.
Q. Is it OK to take "credit by exam" to
fulfill my foreign language requirement?
A. Yes. These units will be included in the credit/no credit limit
of 14 semester units.
Q. Can I still get credit for my foreign
language courses even if I took them out of sequence?
