Vista, Calif.— Emmanuel Corvera and Lee McAllister team up for two top 10 individual finishes in the 4 mile race to guide the men's team to a 4th place finish amongst the 8 teams competing today at the Palomar Invite.

With 101 points the Coyotes were just beaten our for 3rd place by Cerritos, the perennial Southern California power, who finished with 93 points.

Crossing the finish line first for the Coyotes was Corvera in a time of 21:57 to place him 5th overall. 17 seconds back in 9th was McAllister with a time of 22:14. The rest of the scoring 5 came in with a tight group as only 15 seconds separated the trio. Aaron Geisel, Ryan Maize and Austin Kelley, all former teammates for the El Capitan Vaqueros ran 23:24, 23:33 and 23:39 respectively. Finishing out the top 7 was Connor Macky, also a former teammate with the Vaqueros at 24:05 and Alfredo Beltran at 24:25.

No to be out done by the men, the women had a big meet against some top level competition. Once again lead by Paige Hughes the ladies finished 6th out of 10 scoring teams, but more importantly the Cuyamaca ladies finished 2 out of 5 of the 7 conference teams competing today. Palomar was the top PCAC team finishing in 2nd overall with 93 points to Cuyamaca's 139. But the Coyotes were well ahead of rivals Imperial Valley with 213, San Diego City with 220 and Grossmont who didn't have a scoring team. The Coyotes also managed to defeat San Diego Christian college, a 4 year school competing as well.

Individually Hughes finished 5th in the field of 94 with a season best of 20:25. Betty Covarrubias ran a great last 2 miles to finish in 21:35. Ashley Fishman continues to improve in her first full season of cross country ever as she ran 22: 32. Not to be outdone by El Capitan, West Hills had a trio of runners competing well for the Coyotes as Kailiene Gini, Sarah Snyder and Kailin Anderson came in 4th-6th for Cuyamaca. Rounding out the top 7 for Cuyamaca was Renee Zertuche who prepped at Mountain Empire.

The Coyotes will now get ready to take on the best in Southern California next week at Fairview Park for the Southern California Preview meet.
